Prevent Sweating: Factors for Selecting an Effective Treatment
Everyone wants to prevent sweating. It's disgusting. But only you know how it feels to deal with excessive sweating day in and day out.
Wouldn't it be nice not to have to wear an undershirt to control armpit stains? What else could you accomplish each day if you weren't taking multiple showers or changing clothes?
How great would it be to hug a family member without feeling them pull away?
Stop to imagine what it would feel like to live a normal life without constant sweating. Makes you feel pretty darned excited, doesn't it?
We should just be able to stop sweating at the snap of our fingers or-even better-just prevent sweating altogether. No more showering several times per day, no more switching clothes before a big date, just bam-cool and dry.
Why We Can't Prevent Sweating Completely
As much as we want to prevent sweating on all parts of our body, that would be a big mistake. Sweating is the body's natural mechanism for cooling down and lowering our body temperature when we're overheating. If we stopped sweating completely (a condition known as anhidrosis), we would risk heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
But We Can Prevent Sweating for a Happier Life
The good news is that scientific studies (and everyday occurrences) have proven that preventing sweating on a small scale (such as using an underarm antiperspirant) does not significantly impact the body's ability to regulate its temperature. In other words, it's ok to prevent sweating!
Can you picture how happy you would be if you could prevent the sweating that bothers you?
There are plenty of ways to do it, but there is no one "right" way to prevent sweating. Everyone is different. The treatment you will use to prevent excessive sweating depends on
How much you sweat (Will an antiperspirant or medication help, or do you need to consider surgery?)
Where you sweat (The treatment options for sweaty feet will be different than the treatment for underarm sweating or face sweating.)
The cause of your sweating (Excessive sweating can be triggered by various factors, including the side effects of prescription medications, diabetes, alcoholism, environmental factors, and genetics.)
The impact of your sweating (Is it something you are willing to "deal with"? Do you feel it is negatively impacting your life on a large scale, such as forcing you to avoid social situations?)
